Week 3 Macro Collage

I took hundreds of pictures this week. Most of which were blurry, too dark or not as cool as I thought they would be. I deleted 90% of them and chose these. I especially like my daughters eyeball. I've played around with eyeball shots before, the lighting is key. I also like the Japenese beatle, and the knotted rope. Well I guess I really like all of them. My collage creating skills feel lacking, I'm sure that I can organize better to highlight one photo over another. But for now...

  1. This is absolutely beautiful! There is no dead space...the stories are all told, but some are left, not.

    Great work!

The closer you can get, the closer you come to the abstract, and the farther away you get from the literal. To tell a story effectively, you must leave things out, and the only way to really effectively tell a really, really go d tale is to leave things out. If you take the time to tell every detail of the story, then your audience gets bored. Take the time to tell only what is important and leave the rest to the imagination!

  3. Great stuff. So many nice shots. So what did you learn about eyeball lighting. I'm intrigued. I'd like to try that myself.

  4. The eyeball reflects everything you try to light it with. You can see two light bulbs in the reflection of this eyeball picture. The perfect lighting would come from everywhere all at once and not cause the person to squint. (Outside does not work very well.) I think using indirect lighting, like reflectors would help. Maybe florescent lights would work, I've never tried that.

  5. The collage is bold. I do like the eyeball shot as well. The whole collage is compelling. I think I agree that you do not need all the details to get your story across. Great job!!

  6. Nice! I especially like the extreme closeups of the frog and the flower. Were you shooting with a tripod?

  7. I really enjoy the shots of the dandelion gone to seed. They are so simple yet so beautiful, and you really captured the texture of them well. I also love the lizard! The colors in it are so nice. The whole collage overall looks really good together. It's like you are telling a story about your life through these photos. And the colors really pop.

  8. I like how most of the colors in this collage are dark blues and greens but then you threw in a few of those dark redish photos like the sun or the eye. Nice work!

  10. Nice job with this project. I love the color scheme. The eyeball is definetly my favorite as well. Less photos would have helped to highlight the photos, like you said, but it so hard to choose when you have so many great ones. It would have been interesting if the eyeball was the center focus with all the other photos around it. As though it were a perspective from that eye itself. Just a thought, if you happen to mess around with a collage like that I would LOVE to see it.
